A loft kept raw, warmed only by textile, wool and timber.
The client bought a former workshop with concrete columns and steel windows and did not want to cover any of it. The brief was to make it warm without making it soft.
We added almost nothing permanent. Wool, linen and a few pieces of timber furniture do the work that partitions and finishes would usually do.

THE SITE
Keeping the workshop and changing the temperature.
Large north windows give the loft even light all day but little sun. We placed every textile where it would hold warmth and soak up sound.
Heavy wool curtains on ceiling tracks divide the sleeping area at night and fold away to the wall by day.

“Nothing was added to be looked at. Everything in the room is there to be used.”
